'Mr. Waring, in his youth, was the articled pupil of a London architect, when he became a student of the Royal Academy, and gained the large silver medal granted by the Society of Arts for designs of architectural ornament...In 1854, [he] assisted Mr. Digby Wyatt in compiling the Crystal Palace Handbooks to the Byzantine, Renaissance, Mediaeval, and Italian Courts. In the following year he produced a work on "The Arts Connected with Architecture in Central Italy," the original drawings for which were purchased by the Department of Science and Art for the South Kensington Museum and Art-Schools. In the arrangement of the Art-Treasures Exhibition at Manchester, in 1857, he had an important part, being appointed Director of the Museum of Ornamental Art and Sculpture...An account of "The Masterpieces of Industrial Art in the International Exhibition" [of 1862] published by Messrs. Day and Son, with lithographic illustrations, in 1863, was edited by him...Mr. Waring his during the last twelvemonth discharged his arduous and responsible duties in connection with the Leeds Exhibition...to the entire satisfaction of all concerned'.
