'...a pair of silver slippers, richly ornamented with filigree, said to have been worn by the Abuna [bishop of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. The slippers were among]...objects of interest and value which formed part of the spoil captured by the British army at the storming of Magdala, and which have been secured for the British Museum...[They] are now the property of the nation, having been purchased by Mr. Holmes at the sale of the plunder of Magdala'.
