Testimonial to Mr. C. J. Monk, M.P., from the Civil Service, 1869. 'An address was recently presented to Mr. Monk, M.P., by the members of the Civil Service throughout the kingdom, expressing their gratitude for his successful efforts to obtain their enfranchisement. The address has been written upon highly illuminated pages of vellum, bound like a book, and inclosed in a casket. The ornamentation is in the Renaissance style, and includes views of the Houses of Parliament, Somerset House, the Custom House, and the Post Office. There were present Mr. Felix J. Hamel, Solicitor of Customs; Mr. R. A. Ogilvie, Surveyor-General of Customs; Mr. W. H. Ashurst, Solicitor to the General Post Office; Mr. Edwin Beedell, Mr. G. W. Bennett, Mr. J. E. Horan, Mr. J. C. Jackson, and Mr. E. Bishopp Smith, of the Customs; Mr. S. Walliker, Postmaster, Hull; and Mr. J. R. Reed, of the Inland Revenue, Derby. The bound volume and casket were designed and manufactured by Messrs. Marcus Ward and Co., of Belfast, and of Chandos- street, Covent-garden'. From "Illustrated London News", 1869.
