The New Chapel of St. John's College, Cambridge, 1869. 'This building, erected from the designs of Mr. G. G. Scott, R.A., will probably take the second place in ecclesiastical architecture at Cambridge, after the chapel of King's College...It is in the Early Decorated style, which was the original style of the old chapel...The tracery of the various windows is varied and rich, and the carving which embellishes their exterior and interior is well executed, and has a most pleasing effect...The transepts are vaulted with stone...The different stained-glass windows have been the gift of several benefactors...The tower, erected partially by the munificence of the late Mr. Henry Hoare, to which he contributed £2000, is 42 ft. square outside, 140 ft. hight to the top of the parapet, and 163 ft. to the top of the pinnacles...The total cost of the chapel, exclusive of the organ and painted windows, is estimated to exceed £53,000.
