The Willoughby Cup, Leamington and Warwick Races, 1869. 'The Willoughby Cup, for the Leamington and Warwick Spring Meeting, has this year been produced by the well-known firm of Benson, of Old Bond-street. It is a two-handled vase-shaped cup, of a very beautiful though somewhat florid design, standing on an oxydised base, on which are statuette models of two jockeys walking their horses preparatory to a canter. The handles spring from two finely-modelled and chased horses' heads, and the body of the cup is ornamented with an oxydised bas-relief of the exciting struggle at the finish of a closely-contested match. The whole is surmounted by a perfectly modelled and chased racehorse, saddled and ready to start'. From "Illustrated London News", 1869.
