Syd Walker Talking to Nellie Wallace About Using gramophone records for War Materials, 1942. Britain during the Second World War. 'One thing we were asked to do was save old gramophone discs - not to torture Hitler to death by playing them over to him, but for salvaging some ingredient or other [shellac] to help make something to throw at him. To collect these old records, Syd Walker went around with a barrow and met characters like Nellie Wallace. Nellie: "I've got a record for you - my wedding day". Syd: "Blimey that's a few years back". Nellie: "Yes yes, but you know it's never too late - might happen again".' (Laughter). From "Time To Remember - The End Of The Beginning", 1942 ( Reel 2); documentary film about events of 1942 and America's entry into the war.
