Wandsworth, Greater London Authority, 1880-1900. Thomas Tilling's horse bus (Putney Route). Thomas Tilling purchased his first horse bus in 1850 which he ran between Peckham and Oxford Street in London. Unlike many other operators, Tilling's buses stopped at predetermined points en-route and ran to a fixed timetable. Passengers liked this reliability and the company became hugely successful. By the inter-war period the Tilling Group had become one of the major bus operators in the United Kingdom.
