The Tomb of Raffaelle Sanzio di Urbino, in the Pantheon at Rome, 1870. On passing through its great bronze door and turning to the left hand a square slab of marble is found, with the following inscription: "D. O. M. RAPHAELI - SANCTIO IOANN - F - VEBINATI - PICTORI - EMINENTISS - VETERVMQ - AEMVLO - CVIVS - SPIRANTES - PROPE - IMAGINES - SI - CONTEMPLERE - NATVRAE - ATQ - ARTIS - FOEDVS - FACILE - INSPEXERIS - IVLII - II - ET - LEONIS - X - PONTT - MAXX - PICTVRAE - ET - ARCHITECT - OPERIBVS - GLORIAM - AVXIT - VIX - ANN0S - XXXVII - INTEGER - INTEGROS - QVO - DIE - NATVS - EST - EO - ESSE, - DESIIT - VIII - ID - APRILIS - MDXX - ILLE - HIC - EST - RAPHAEL - TIMVIT - QVO - SOSPITE - VINCI - RERVM - MAGNA - PARENS - ET MORIENTE - MORI -". At the side is an altar endowed by Raffaelle with a picture of the Virgin and Child, painted, at his desire, by his pupil as well as friend, Lorenzo Lotto'. From "Illustrated London News", 1870.
