The rarest ruminant: the Takin, now at the "Zoo", 1909. 'The [London] "Zoo " has just received and placed on exhibition this fine young takin. Next to the okapi, the takin is rarest and least known of the ruminants. It comes somewhere between goats and antelopes, and is probably most nearly allied to the serow. It is a native of the highlands of Tibet. This specimen is the only one that has reached London alive'. From "Illustrated London News", 1909.
