The new French ministry: Marquis de Talhouet (Public Works), 1870. 'The representatives of the Left Centre are especially noticeable. M. le Marquis De Talhouet, Minister of Public Works, is a deputy for the Sarthe. He was elected a member of the Legislative Assembly in 1849. Connected by birth with an ancient and noble family, he is possessed of a large fortune, and is a man of great spirit. In the country as well as in the Assembly, he occupies a very influential station. He opposed the Emperor as President, protested against the coup-d'etat, and was imprisoned at Vincennes after that event'. From "Illustrated London News", 1870.
