Prize Plate for the Northampton Races, 1870. 'The silver plate won for a prize this year at the Northampton races was manufactured by Messrs. Elkington and Co. Its design, as shown in our Illustration, represents the meeting between King Edward IV. and Dame Elizabeth Woodville in Whittlebury Forest, when the beautiful widow implored his Majesty to give back to her and her children the confiscated estate of her husband. The King, it is well known, admired the lady so much that he made her his Queen'. From "Illustrated London News", 1870.
