Mr. Gladstone's Ministerial Dinner: arrival of guests, 1870. British Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone entertains his political friends '...at No. 8, Carlton House-terrace [in London]...Many of the guests were in Court dress; and their arrival at Mr. Gladstone's door, after seven o'clock in the evening, attracted the gaze of a crowd of loungers.
