Presented To The Pope, But, It Is Said, Not Likely To Be Used By His Holiness: The 20-30-H.P. Itala, The Gift Of American Roman Catholics, 1909. 'This 20-30-h.p. Itala Iandaulette has been presented to the Pope by some American Roman Catholics, but it is said that bis Holiness will not use it. He does not altogether favour the motor-car, and, if report can be believed expressed a wish quite recently that Cardinals and ether dignitaries of the Church should use motor-cars for long journeys only. The car presented to his Holiness is lined with pearl-grey silk. It is varnished black. On the doors and on the lamps are the Papal arms. In the interior is a flower-vase, a prayer-book, a note-book in a gold cover, a gold pencil, a bottle for salts and a bottle for perfume. It is the first motor-car that has ever entered the Vatican'.
