Gravosa Harbour, Dalmatia, 1870. 'Some description of the mountainous scenery and secluded inlets of the sea along the shore of Dalmatia has been given, with the views of several places supplied by the sketches of Lieutenant Sitwell, and we now present a view of Gravosa [present-day Gruz, Dubrovnik, Croatia]. This harbour lies on the north side of the small peninsula jutting out into the Adriatic, upon which stands the old city of Ragusa, about forty miles north-west of Cattaro. It affords safe accommodation for large ships; whereas the port of Ragusa, on the south side, will hold only coasting vessels of little tonnage. Gravosa, as well as Ragusa, is well fortified, and forms an essential link in the chain of Austrian defences'. From "Illustrated London News", 1870.
