Bust of Athena, 2nd century A.D. Additional Info: The bust shows the goddess to the waist. It is intact except for a large gap at the front where the head has separated from the body at the neck. The exposed bronze as well as much of the inside and some parts of the helmet and forehead show signs of corrosion. The head, neck, and helmet are solid cast while the body is hollow with a flat, open back. Two arms were attached separately; the left arm is completely missing, the right has been broken off at the wrist. The goddess wears the aegis and a Corinthian helmet with a large, double-plumed crest. She has a long, thin nose and her lips are widely parted, as if speaking. The eyelids are incised and the pupils drilled.
