Amphora, 1st century A.D. Additional Info: Free-blown splashware amphoriskos of violet translucent glass rolled into chips of various colored glass (opaque white, yellow light blue, turquoise and dark blue), thereafter marvered to incorporate the flakes. The gather was then inflated, the chips distorted in the areas of greatest expansion. The teardrop-shaped body rests on a small folded foot with a concave base. The lip was first folded down and then upwards. Handles added from violet gather rolled in chips, attached under rim and pulled down to attach to shoulder. A second gather added below the handle and pulled down the surface of the vessel to give a raised motif accentuated by five horizontal depressions in the glass. Reassembled with small fills on the body.
