Red-Slip Pyriform Jug, A.D. 200-275. Additional Info: Red-slip pyriform jug, with circular foot, decorated all around with scenes drawn from the wild beast hunts (venationes) staged in amphiteaters. The decorative motifs are distributed over two vertical zones, each showing two representations, one placed above the other. On the right of the handle: a hunter wresting with a horse, and an archer taking aim with a bow. On the left: a third hunter fighting a boar, while two boars run nearby; above, a victory wreath decorated with upturned spikes, emblems of the team. The handle itself is flanked by acanthus leaves. Below the mouth of the jug are two seashells. All the decorations consist in mold-made appliques attached to the surface of the vessel. Such vases may have served as souvenirs of shows.
