Scenes from the Life of Joseph; Wenceslaus Psalter, about 1250-1260. Additional Info:The scenes on this page continue the story of Joseph and his brothers in Egypt begun on the facing page. The patriarch Joseph, who was sold by his brothers into slavery, has risen to a position of power in Egypt. At first unrecognized by his brothers, Joseph sends them to get their elderly father Jacob, who then makes the journey to Egypt. The reunion between Jacob and his son Joseph pictured in the roundel at the lower right completes the story. Divided into circular sections with burnished gold backgrounds, the miniature is reminiscent of the stained-glass windows of the 1200s, both in its composition and in its sparkle and brilliance.
