Decorated Initial B; Stammheim Missal, probably 1170s. Additional Info:A two-headed dragon and the vine scroll tendril that winds around it form an initial B that introduces the Mass celebrated on the feast day of Saint Mary Magdalene. The fantastic creature and swirling leaf forms were basic components in the Romanesque artist's visual vocabulary.
