Inhabited Initial S; Stammheim Missal, probably 1170s. Additional Info:A man blows a horn from inside an initial S , heralding the introit for Pentecost, which opens with the declaration Spiritus domini replevit orbem terrarum (The spirit of the Lord fills the whole world). The motif is particularly appropriate to the text, because the Latin word spiritus means both "spirit" and "breath." The musical notation written above the text indicates the chant melodies.
