General Manuel Pavía y Lacy (1814-1896) wearing the Grand Cross of the Royal and Military Order of Saint Ferdinand, also known as the Laureate Cross of Saint Ferdinand, 1865. Spain’s highest military decoration for gallantry. The order was established by the Cádiz Cortes in 1811 to honour the heroic fight against the Napoleonic army.
