Erckmann and Chatrian's very popular stories, "The Conscript," "Waterloo," "The Invasion," and others recently translated into English. We can only hope that the Alsatians, who are half German and half French, will be allowed to live comfortably, and that their country will never again become the seat of war'. Alsace-Lorraine, officially the Imperial Territory of Alsace-Lorraine, was a territory of the German Empire, located in modern-day France. It was established in 1871 by the German Empire after it had occupied the region during the Franco-Prussian War. Alsatian culture is characterized by a blend of German and French influences.
