Marriage of Princess Louise: Highland claymore given to the Marquis of Lorne, 1871. 'The officers, non-commissioned officers, and gunners of the Argyll and Bute Artillery Volunteers presented the Marquis, their Lieutenant-Colonel, with a claymore, or Highland sword, manufactured especially for him by Messrs. Wilkinson and Son, of Pall-Mall. It has a basket-hilt, richly ornamented with the Marquis's initials and motto, "Ne obliviscaris," surmounted by a coronet. These devices are in chased and frosted silver, on a gold ground. The Galley of Lorne, with crest and regimental devices, are upon the scabbard mountings. The blade, which bears a suitable inscription, is one of those specially selected for praise by the jurors of the last Exhibition. The arrangement of the devices and mountings has been designed and superintended by Captain Maclaine, of Lochbuy'. From "Illustrated London News", 1871.
