One of several '...deplorable scenes of civil strife and ferocious outrage, carried in one instance to the extent of a massacre, and involving the perpetration of several deliberate murders, without the slightest justification, on the part of the Red Republican insurgents...[View of] the seizure of General Chanzy by the insurgents, which took place at the Barriere Fontainebleau, in the evening of the same day, upon his arrival by the Orleans Railway from Tours. At a later hour of that evening the leaders of the revolt installed themselves in the Hotel de Ville, and assumed the style of a temporary Government'. From "Illustrated London News", 1871.
