The French Siege of Paris: a call upon the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1871. 'The houses of the different religious and charitable institutions in Paris have been visited by agents of the Commune, with a detachment of National Guards, to make forcible requisitions of money or goods. [Our Illustration], from a sketch by a French artist, shows a visit of this nature at the Asile of the Petites Soeurs des Pauvres, or Little Sisters of the Poor. The good sisters are much distressed and scandalised by the unjust demand on them, which they are, nevertheless, unable to resist'. From "Illustrated London News", 1871.
