The Murder of Antiochus III; Des cas des nobles hommes et femmes, about 1413-1415. Additional Info: After a long and bloody civil war with his brother Seleucus, the defeated Antiochus III, king of Asia and Syria, sought asylum in Cappadocia with his brother-in-law. Turned away, he fled to Egypt, where the king imprisoned him. Antiochus managed to escape with the help of a courtesan, but while in flight he was attacked in a forest by marauders who slit his throat. In the miniature, one brigand stabs the king in the throat, while the second rogue prepares to thrust his dagger into the king's exposed chest.
