The Betrayal of Christ; Arenberg Hours, early 1460s. Additional Info: Judas leans in from behind to kiss Christ, a signal that reveals Jesus' identity to the soldiers, who then seize Christ. The brightly colored clothing and swift movements of the soldiers contrast with the somber attire and stationary figure of Christ himself, who projects a passive mood of calm acceptance. The image is the first in a series of depictions of the Passion of Christ that accompanies a sequence of prayers devoted to the same subject.
