The Queen at the Agricultural Society's Show in the Home Park, Windsor: judging the horses, 1872. 'The Queen visited, on Wednesday week, the annual exhibition of the Royal Counties (Hants and Berks) Agricultural Association, which took place on the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, in the Home Park, Windsor, near the South-Western Railway station, and beneath the north terrace of Windsor Castle...The Queen, with Prince Leopold, Princess Christian, and Princess Beatrice, came in a carriage and four from the Castle...Her Majesty, having been presented with the catalogue, drove slowly round the ground and inspected each department of the show. The first stoppage was made to see the horses exercised within the ring...Her Majesty and the Prince of Wales were among the exhibitors, and were awarded prizes...One novelty should not be overlooked - the introduction of a travelling telegraphic establishment, by means of which telegrams could be instantly sent from the show-yard to every part of the kingdom'.
