Head of Ptolemy IV?, 246-222 B.C. Additional Info: The face is round, but the features are small and compact. The head is flat at the top with a diadem indicated by a thick, raised ridge. Where the knot of the diadem should be is a large chunk of marble that extends down the back of the neck. The hair is swept forward from under the diadem. The top and back of the head are only roughly worked and the right side of the neck shows rasp marks. At the apex of the forehead, a large chunk of marble has broken off. Sculpted from a gray, medium grained marble, the head is heavily weathered. Only the right side is in good condition; the left side is heavily incrusted.
