Alabastron, 2nd-1st century BC. Blue Flask with a Feather Pattern. Additional Info: Core formed: a core of organic and inorganic materials shaped on the end of a rod to the dimensions of the interior. Dipped into a batch of molten dark blue glass, or had the glass trailed around the exterior, then marvered smooth. Fine bands of opaque yellow glass were then trailed around the piece horizontally starting from the rim, then vertically combed, alternating directions to form a feathered pattern. The core material was then removed and the handles added as blobs of molten blue glass. The rim was also added and flattened while being turned. A ribbon of yellow was added to its exterior. The surface is quite pitted, and one handle is missing.
