Amphoriskos, 3rd-1st century BC. Red and Brown Flasks with Festoons. Additional Info: Core formed: a core of organic and inorganic materials shaped on the end of a rod to the dimensions of the interior. Dipped into a batch of molten black glass, or had the glass trailed around the exterior, then marvered smooth. Fine bands of alternating opaque yellow and turquoise were then trailed around the piece horizontally, then combed upwards vertically to form a wave pattern, itself smoothed into the surface by marvering. The core material was then removed and the handles added as trails of molten yellow glass attached to the side of the neck, pulled outwards, down, and reattached at the shoulders. Finally the rim was added, flattened while being turned, as was the foot in opaque blue glass surrounded by yellow. Well preserved condition, with little sign of deterioration.
