The Queen of Saxony, 1872. 'The Germans have a pretty and tender domestic custom of celebrating the twenty-fifth and the fiftieth anniversaries of a matrimonial partnership by what they call the Silver and the Golden Wedding, these occasions being kept with a religious ceremony, and with friendly congratulations by the neighbours and kindred of the mutually faithful pair. Their Majesties the King and Queen of Saxony, who are much beloved and honoured, were so happy as to be able to celebrate their golden wedding at Dresden on Sunday week. King John of Saxony is in the seventy-first year of his age. It was on Nov, 21, 1822, that he espoused Princess Amelia Augusta of Bavaria, a lady a few weeks older than himself'. From "Illustrated London News", 1872.
