'Sir Philip Sidney at the Tournament in Whitehall', c1929. 'In 1575, Sidney appeared at the Court of Queen Elizabeth, where he soon attracted Royal favour'. The Accession Day tilts were a series of elaborate festivities held annually at the court of Elizabeth I of England to celebrate her Accession Day, 17 November 1558, also known as Queene's Day.
