'The Bosjesmans at the Egyptian Hall, Piccadilly', 1847. Illustration advertising one of the 'exhibits' - indigenous people on display for the amusement of Europeans - at the Egyptian Hall in London. The group supposedly performed a national dance, a hunting scene, a war attack and a 'conversational interlude'. The term Bushmen, from 17th-century Dutch 'Bosjesmans', is now considered pejorative or derogatory by many South Africans.
