Ashantee implements, 1873. Artefacts from West Africa. 'A. Sanko, musical instrument. B. Cushion. C. Ashantee Minister's State Bag. D. Fantee Stool, cut out of one solid block of cotton-wood. E, F. War Greegrees or Charms, made of leather and straw worked in. G. Knife of Office, used for human sacrifices: the blade is of iron having four brass bells attached; the handle of wood, bound and ornamented with brass. H. Native Sword. I. Kroo Boy's Pipe: the bowl is of clay, connected with a gourd by reed tube, and reed for stem. J. Native Chief's Hat, of straw, with grass on the top. K. War Drum and Drumstick. L. Snuff-Mill, a loose ball within the pillars; the whole cut with rough tools out of one solid block of wood. M. Native Knife. N, O. Greegrees, of leather and straw. Q. Powder-Flask, of cow's-horn. R, S. Tennasse Chief's Bow and Spear, Porto Locco; the bow-string is made of wood; the spear is of iron, bound round with leopards' skin. T. Native Harp, with a gourd to soften and improve the sound.
