Saint Mark; Book of Hours, about 1410. Additional Info:In a miniature above the opening words of his gospel, Saint Mark is shown seated with his symbol, a winged lion. The floor's pattern alternates squares of black with a gold diamond and green with a gold circle. The rear wall is distinguished by a motif of large diamonds circumscribed in white that contain gold squares throughout, blue squares in the center, and red squares toward the border. Saint Mark, in the middle of writing his gospels, looks up at his quill pen. Part of the book in which he writes is blank, awaiting his thoughts. Follower of the Egerton Master.
