Vasco da Lucena Giving his Work to Charles the Bold, about 1470-1475. Additional Info:Vasco da Lucena, who translated the original Latin biography of Alexander the Great by Quintus Curtius Rufus into French, kneels as he presents his book to Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy. Some of the nobles standing in the room wear the collars or pendant of the chivalric Order of the Golden Fleece. The lavish red bed in the background provides a visual link to the following miniature of the birth of Alexander, suggesting a flattering parallel between Charles, the book's patron, and Alexander the Great. Livre des fais d'Alexandre le grant.
