Saint Anthony Abbot; Book of Hours, about 1430-1440. Anthony is credited with assisting in a number of miraculous healings, primarily from ergotism, which became known as "St. Anthony's Fire". The saint is invoked against infectious diseases, particularly skin diseases, many of which were referred to in the past as Saint Anthony's fire.
